Teach grade 4 curriculum in student groups of 3 or more, emphasizing assessing the individual student and reaching all students’ needs. Lessons and coursework will meet the expectations of the four strands in the curriculum to enable students to understand, respond to, create, and comprehend a range of literary, informational, and media texts (Ontario Curriculum). A multi-faceted approach to a variety of activities will provide the following:

  • Students will use consolidated phonics and orthographic knowledge in word choice.
  • Reading complex texts, such as short fiction and nonfiction texts and lessons to teach how to answer text questions. Analyzing, discussing, and writing.
  • Students will engage in parts of speech and simple/complex/compound sentences in various writing activities, such as paragraphs, formal letters, recount writing, etc.
  • Students will engage in oral language through whole-group reading and class discussions, such as brainstorming topic knowledge, strategies to solve writing errors, presenting ideas, and discussing peer work.
